I went to the Blue Mosque in Istanbul and it was very nice. It was so big and so pretty and the inside was packed with visitors. All the ladies have to wear something on their heads to show respect and the men had to have long trousers. Everybody had to take their shoes off and carry them in a plastic bag. My mum carried my shoes because she is the best!
We had to take the shoes off because the carpet has to be clean for the people who pray there. The inside was beautiful to look at and the tiles have pictures. A lot of the tiles were blue because they thought it was a powerful colour. The real name of the mosque is The Sultan Ahmet mosque, it is on Sultan Ahmet square near Hagia Sophia.
Inside the mosque we saw a big stair case that the imam climbs to talk to the people, it is called a minbar.
The mihrab is the prayer niche to bounce the sound back. The columns were called elephant feet columns because they were big and strong to support the building.
How lovely to have you back on the web!! I see you enjoyed the Sultan Ahmet mosque. Was it your favourite spot in Istanbul?
I HATED the underground cistern because I slipped and water was dribbling from the ceiling. I love all the kittens and cats. I also love the chestnuts, they boil in your belly, they’re no nice. The spice bazaar was very nice, I liked the nutty Turkish delight because they were free taste testers. The spices were pretty good too, they looked really nice. Have you read that fat cats are everywhere? Lol.
